Blocked drains are the most common plumbing call I get on the Capricorn Coast. Most are straightforward to clear — high-pressure water jetting, an hour or two, done. A few turn into bigger jobs because the pipe itself has failed or is being invaded by tree roots. The first thing worth knowing: if only one fixture is slow (say, the kitchen sink), it's a local blockage and usually cheap to fix. Supermarket drain cleaners are fine for a hair clog in a shower. They're useless against tree roots, collapsed pipes, or foreign objects (wipes, nappies, kids' toys — I've seen all three). Repeated use also damages older copper and galvanised plumbing. If the blockage doesn't clear with a plunger and a kettle of hot water, call someone rather than throwing more chemicals down.
